FAQs for Parents/Guardians

Where will my son/daughter stay at night during the residential sections?

Young people will usually stay at an outdoor activity centre in the countryside. They will be staying in single-gender accommodation (e.g. separate dorms, flats etc.). The type of accommodation may vary, but the details for each programme will be sent out to participants prior to the start date. All amenities (showers, power plugs etc.) will be readily available.

How much does it cost to participate in NCS?

Each place is worth hundreds of pounds, but the standard price for YC Hertfordshire is just £50 with bursaries available. There are no hidden extra costs such as kit or spending money.

Can my son/daughter participate with their friend/s?

NCS with YC Hertfordshire is a great way to meet new people and make new friends. Young people can sign up with friends, and if they apply for the same date in the same area, and attend the same school, they have a good chance of being on the same programme. Once they have both signed up they can request that they are on the same team as their friends and we will do everything to accommodate this. Just be aware that signing up early can increase the chances of this.

How do I pay?

You can pay on-line by visiting https://www.ncsingeus.co.uk/sign-up/ For alternative payment methods please contact 01992 555682 or email ncs@hertfordshire.gov.uk.

What if I pay and my son/daughter changes their mind?

We’re sure that this won’t happen as NCS with YC Hertfordshire is such a great opportunity. However refunds are available within 14 days of signing up or may be available in exceptional circumstances following this timeframe.
