Young people inspired to never give up their dreams of achieving bigger things

18 December 2017

Over 80 young people celebrate their National Citizen Service graduation with Y C Hertfordshire.

On Thursday 7th December, YC Hertfordshire held its autumn graduation ceremony to celebrate the achievements of those who completed the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme earlier in the autumn.

The ceremony, held at County Hall in Hertford, was an opportunity for NCS graduates to showcase their successful social action projects to their parents, reunite with their team mates and leaders and receive their NCS certificates of achievement.

The event featured a talk by motivational speaker Chineme Ezigbo, who called on young people to never give up their dreams of achieving bigger things and encouraged them to give whatever they do 100 percent. He also thanked the parents for their continuing support, for never giving up on their teenager, no matter what life throws at them.

As part of their YC Hertfordshire NCS experience every young person spent 30 hours volunteering on a social action project, which they designed and led themselves. This year YC Hertfordshire worked with a large cohort of students from Hertford Regional College who used the social action element of NCS for their course work experience and 41 students graduated from the college alone.

Projects included an activity day for a group of elderly people with dementia which involved a quiz, science experiments and cooking and an East Herts group made a mental health awareness film.

The young people who completed the programme said:

“I loved learning new skills (such as first aid) as it’s a valuable skill to have and put on my CV. It has improved my teamwork skills and confidence with new people.”

“It was amazing, I had an amazing time. Wish I could go again.”

YC Hertfordshire runs NCS programmes during school holidays throughout the year and is currently recruiting for the summer 2018.
