Young people develop their talents at new project in Borehamwood

01 July 2016

Youth Connexions has launched Open Mic Night, a new Friday evening project at 96 Shenley Road, providing a platform for young people to display and develop their musical skills.

The event was a great success and attracted both performers and fans of live music. It was run in partnership with Hertsmere Leisure, who provided the equipment and technical support for the night.

The evening inspired a great variety of performances including this great rap number.

Young people who regularly attend 96 Shenley Road’s Friday Night project were keen to take part. Katie, who is aged 15 and lives in Borehamwood said “It was a really great night; I had no idea that some of my friends were so talented!”

Simon Wright, Youth Work Development Worker, is working with young people from the project to form an events committee so that young people can steer the way the project grows. The aim is to run the events monthly as part of the Youth Connexions weekend work programme in Hertsmere; they will run every second Friday of the month starting in the second week of September..
