St Albans young people showcase local bands for charity

16 March 2017

Young people in St Albans organised an evening of live music in support of local charity the OLLIE Foundation.

Supported by YC Hertfordshire (previously providing services under the name Youth Connexions), St Albans Youth Council organised the event at Pioneer Youth Centre in St Albans, thanks to a grant from Feeling Good Week.

The event was designed to showcase local talent and raise awareness and money for the charity which aims to prevent teenage suicide.

£670 was raised for the cause and 120 young people attended the event.

Youth work team leader Robert Brown helped to organise the event. He said: “The young people took a lead role in organising this event in aid of a cause that’s important to them.

“Those who attended had a great time and were treated to some brilliant live music. Just as importantly, those attending were also given information about the OLLIE Foundation and its important work in teenage suicide awareness and prevention, signposting and training programmes for professionals.

“Youth council members, YC Hertfordshire staff and comperes initiated discussions and we had publicity materials to give out on the evening.”

Katie, who attended the event, said: “I loved all of it – a great turn out for a great cause.”

St Albans Youth Council is now aiming to plan regular fundraising events in the future for local causes.
