Francis Combe Academy students find opportunity to meet employers ‘inspiring’

04 March 2016

Over 500 students in Years 11, 12 and 13 had the opportunity to meet face to face with employers at a careers fair held at Francis Combe Academy, Watford on Thursday afternoon, 3rd March. Youth Connexions was pleased to work with the academy in planning the event and in securing the wide range of employers who attended.

Employers from a broad range of sectors were there, including John Lewis, KPMG, Warner Brother Studios, Renault Group and The Army. The students were encouraged to move around the employers in small groups, affording them the opportunity to ask individual questions to find out more about the companies that interested them. The employers commented in their feedback that: ‘students were very positive and had beautiful manners’; ‘(it was) great to see the enthusiasm of the students for the industry’ and students were ‘articulate and confident’ and ‘keen to listen’.

The event was organised as part of a wider careers week put on by the academy- and was deemed to be a busy, valuable and informative occasion.  Feedback from students showed that they had found the day to be both interesting and worthwhile with comments such as ‘the employers were very helpful’; I enjoyed finding out what I could do’; ‘there were a lot of opportunities’ and ‘the event inspired me’.
