Youth Connexions Focus Youth Project wins 11 medals at the Hertfordshire Learning Disabilities Games

On Saturday 23 July young people from the Youth Connexions Focus Youth Project had a successful day competing at the Hertfordshire Learning Disabilities Games.

The event was in its fifth year and organised by the Sportspace Sports Development Team in partnership with Dacorum Mencap and the Herts Sports Partnership. It took place at the Sportspace athletics track in Hemel Hempstead.

This was the second year young people from the Focus Youth Project had participated in the event. The morning events gave the teams the chance to compete in a range of sports, including long jump, boccia, tennis and javelin. The Focus Team scored points in every event despite fierce competition. In the afternoon the competitors took to the track for individual events, including the 100 metre sprint, hurdles, 400 metres and the relay. Competing against seven other teams they won an impressive 11 medals.

Youth Connexions youth workers Tracy Crace and Toni Christian cheered on the young people on the day. 

Tracy said, “Even though it was really hot they were totally motivated and were happy to participate in all the activities”.

Toni added: “The whole group were really supportive of one another and were overjoyed with their achievements”.
