Broxbourne Youth Awards celebrate young people’s achievements
23 March 2017
YC Hertfordshire supported the Broxbourne Youth Awards in partnership with Broxbourne Borough Council and hosted by Broxbourne Youth Council on Friday 17th March. The annual event, held in the Spotlight Theatre in Hoddesdon recognises and celebrates the achievements of young people and those that work with them.
YC Hertfordshire Senior Youth Worker Mags Murray was presented with a certificate after being nominated by young people attending the Fiesta Youth Project in Broxbourne. Young people said “Mags is incredible, she shows true compassion and empathy towards every young person that she works with and absolute dedication to supporting and helping the young people.”
The young person who submitted Mags’ nomination said “Mags helped me personally through mental health issues, exam stress and problems that I encountered and was always there to lend a hand or a listening ear…I'm now 18 and studying a subject I love at university. Without Mags' support and encouragement it's possible that I wouldn't have made it here. I nearly gave up on my academic goals throughout my A Levels many times, but Mags always prompted me to keep trying hard for what I wanted out of life, without pushing me further than what my mental health would allow.”
The evening provided an opportunity to celebrate young people’s talent and included presentations and performances from local schools and groups
Mark Hughes YC Hertfordshire Team Manager said: “We are proud to work in partnership with Broxbourne Borough Council in supporting young people through the Youth Council, and grateful to the range of local organisations which sponsor the Awards.
“The Youth Awards is just one of the areas of work which young people work on throughout the year and it provides an excellent opportunity to celebrate all that is positive and good about young people in Broxbourne.”
