Hertfordshire County Council secures top national award in Stonewall’s Education Equality Index 2016

On Friday 8th July, young people from Herts1125 Who not What group attended the Stonewall Education for All conference and, along with Hertfordshire County Council Youth Connexions and Herts for Learning, received the number one award on behalf of Hertfordshire County Council. The award recognises the local authority as the best in the country for its work with and for the young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender* community.

The Youth Connexions ‘Rocket into the Future’ programme suite encourages students to think about their skills and future aspirations. Ralph Sadleir Middle School in Puckeridge chose the Landing and Exploration module for a two day session.

Youth Connexions recently coordinated a one day careers event for Key Stage 5 students at Presdales School in Ware. Students participated in an energetic careers carousel where they had the chance to meet local, national and global employers and seek advice and information.

Youth Connexions has launched Open Mic Night, a new Friday evening project at 96 Shenley Road, providing a platform for young people to display and develop their musical skills.

42 young people from across Watford and Three Rivers who are working towards their Bronze DofE awards took part in a very successful practice expedition during June. ‘Expedition’ is one of four required components of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme, the other three being Volunteering, Physical and Skills.

Young people taking part in a film project at YouthPoint in Watford have made a promotional film to tell their peers about the support available as well as the many and varied Youth Connexions projects that take place in the centre.

Youth Connexions’ careers and work related learning programme Rocket into the Future is designed to inspire primary school students to start thinking about their skills and aspirations. Personal Advisers delivered Rocket into the Future sessions for both Year 6 classes at Flamstead End School in Cheshunt in mid June.

A group of young people from Youth Connexions Abbots Langley youth project joined in the Abbots Langley Carnival last Saturday to promote Youth Connexions youth projects, and raised over £100 for St Francis Hospice.

Youth Connexions carried on the yearly tradition of having our own stand at the Potters Bar Carnival in June; this took place in the grounds of Elm Court Youth and Community Centre in Mutton Lane. This year’s Carnival was particularly special as it coincided with the Queens 90th Birthday celebrations.
