Summer sounds great in St Albans

12/07/2010

Ed, a member of St Albans Youth Council, reports on the summer sounds festival

On Sunday 11 July 2010, young people experienced some of St. Albans best live youth music for free in Clarence Park. Popular local bands and solo performers performed throughout the afternoon to the buzzing crowd of young people who relaxed in the great surroundings enjoying Carmen’s Caribbean cooking and ice cream.

After much deliberation around availability of funding, Summer Sounds was finally confirmed for 2010 in early March with a group from Sandringham School stepping forward to assist in the organisation. Supported by Youth Connexions, Harpenden Town Council and Leisure Connection, the event was a great opportunity for music enthusiasts to see some free live music, and for artists to show off their talent and gain performance experience.

Artists included The Understated, Conor Walker, Kalazar, 13 Riots, Kristian Kiss and Change of Plan with DJ’ing by Hutch. A show stopping performance was given by all much to the appreciation of the crowd who were also able to help raise money for Kicoshep, Harpenden Youth Town Council’s Charity for 2009/10 through battling it out on inflatable Pugle Stix.

Once again the annual event organised by young people, performed by young people and experienced by young people blossomed into an extremely successful day. We hope to see Summer Sounds back next year as did the crowd, which just goes to show how superb St Albans Summer Sounds really is!
