Teenagers wrestle with friends and families!
30/06/2010
Redbourn Youth Parish Council (RYPC) supported by Youth Connexions, raised their profile within the Redbourn community at the Redbourn 900 Carnival held last Saturday.
In temperatures that meant sun cream and water had to be kept close to hand, they introduced the visitors to sumo suit wrestling, an activity that was popular all day with young and old wanting to take their turn at wrestling with friends, brothers and sisters, and parents alike. The youth councillors were on hand to provide the understandably hot and sweaty contestants with milkshakes to quench their thirst.

RYPC councillors also consulted with young people aged 11 – 19 about the new youth club that will be based in the new Parish Centre on Fish Street. Questions around what they would like to see provided, along with when they would like it to be open were asked of over 50 Redbourn teenagers; once more opinions have been sought and results have been collated, these will be provided to the Parish Council for their information.
RYPC raised over £120 towards resourcing the new youth club and are hoping that those they spoke to will be interested in joining them, making the Youth Club a place for young people of the village and also helping make their plans for a gig night in the Village Hall in September a reality.
Carina Panchal who was one of the main organisers commented ”This is my first event as a Youth Councillor, and I was really pleased with the interest shown by local young people for our project”.
If anyone aged 11 – 19 living in Redbourn would like to join the Youth Council or come along and see what they are up to, their next meeting is on Tuesday 20th July, 6pm – 8pm at the Village Hall.
