New volunteering team get going
21/06/2010
This new team of 16 young volunteers have already started making positive contributions to the Young People and Children's' services on this year's vtalentyear programme. Since the successful residential in March, the young volunteers have been volunteering full time across Hertfordshire in placements including; Trainee Support roles at Youth Centres, Outdoor Education Centres, One stop Shops, Sure Start centres, ChannelMogo website and Pro Action.
In addition, members of the group are involved in the vinspired Youth Action Team event planning team, others have helped recruit Youth Connexions staff, some are involved in organising events for their district/organisation, and many are studying hard for their chosen qualification. The team are also involved in producing a film aimed at challenging public perception of young people and volunteering. All are proving to themselves and others that they have the skills, maturity and confidence to make a real difference to their communities.
The following comment from one of our young volunteers illustrates how vtalent year Hertfordshire is making a difference:
"It has opened so many doors, I think everyone needs a stepping stone and Vtalentyear has definitely done that for me. Not only is it beneficial to the community but it also gives you a sense of purpose and lets you feel good about yourself. I now have future plans and I have a road I look to follow."

Despite their busy schedules, many of the team are still interested in learning new skills in other areas so please get in contact if you can involve a young volunteer in your project. For more information please contact Rebecca Birch on 07766 994260 or 01992 901541.
