Young People complete mammoth cycle ride
13/04/2010
Young people from West Hyde and Maple Cross Youth Project recently completed a 23 mile long sponsored bike ride to raise funds for their summer expedition.
The group took the train up to London and then cycled 23 miles along the Grand Union Canal towpath from Kew Gardens back to Rickmansworth Aquadrome. The young people – who included a pair on a tandem - cycled the route to support their planned summer expedition to Snowdonia this July. Despite a puncture and a snapped chain, the whole group completed the challenge in just over 4 hours. They were accompanied by Youth Connexions staff John Weinstock and Paul Elmer. Lucy, aged 14, said ‘It was great fun and I did not have sore legs afterwards’. William, aged 14, said ‘The train journey was good but riding back on the canal was brilliant!’
The project is based at West Hyde Youth Centre in Maple Cross and is open for 3 evenings each week, offering positive activities for young people aged 13 - 19 years. This event is just one of the many ideas and activities that the young people have come up with. If you want to sponsor them or would like further information about the Youth Project, call Youth Connexions Hertfordshire projects, on 01442 454060.
