Young people develop Ideas4life

25/03/2010

A new DVD has been created by Youth Connexions Hertfordshire featuring Hertfordshire young people talking about their lives and their aspirations. Young people with learning disabilities have been instrumental in the design of the DVD.

Rory Scrivener, a former student of Lonsdale Schgool, Stevenage, now a student at Hertfordhsire Regional College, narrates on the DVD and is shown here speaking at the film launch

The DVD is called ideas4life, the film is designed to give young people with learning difficulties and their parents information and ideas about the various options that could be open to them in adult life so that they can begin to plan positively for the future.

Young people from Schools and Colleges joined professionals from all over Hertfordshire for a 'red carpet' premiere viewing at the Plinston, Broadway, Letchworth in late October. ideas4life received excellent reviews and comments such as 'outstanding' and 'inspiring'. The parent of a student at a local college said "an excellent resource, very informative - I wish we had this four years ago".

The project was supported by funding from the Big Spend, Hertfordshire's Youth Opportunity Fund, and the DVD was produced by local company The Create Network which has experience of directing work with young people. Filming has taken place in many locations across Hertfordshire including FE colleges and special schools.

Will Fletcher, Learning for Living and Work Implementation Manager who led the project, said “We had a fantastic response from the students at the schools and colleges and were inspired by their willingness to take part. All the Youth Connexions staff involved in putting this DVD together have been excited by the project as it will help us in our work in young people’s transition planning.”.

The DVD is available to schools and colleges. Information on 'ideas4life' including how to obtain a copy is available from LDDDutyAdviser@hcs.co.uk
