Improving services for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community.

February was LGBT History Month, celebrating the lives and achievements of the LGBT community and its diversity. LGBT History Month gives people the opportunity to learn more about the lives and stories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Britain and Northern Ireland.

There are over 60,000 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people in Hertfordshire. Yet many LGBT people do not give away their LGBT status in places like work, education and at places like the doctor's surgery.

This can mean that sometimes they do not receive the right services or that services are not aware of how to best meet their specific needs.

So a number of public service organisations in Hertfordshire have joined together to support and fund the first ever Hertfordshire LGBT Voice Counts Survey. This will improve understanding of the needs and experiences of LGBT people in Hertfordshire. Practitioners working with young people who  think or know that they are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Transgender, are encouraged to tell them about the survey. The comments of all taking part will be kept completely confidential.

The survey finishes on 22nd March. A poster promoting the survey can be downloaded by clicking here.

The survey is accessed on channelmogo at www.channelmogo.org
