Volunteering in Youth Projects
Could you be a volunteer youth worker?
If you've got the energy and enthusiasm to help young people realise their potential then we want to hear from you.
Youth Connexions works with young people aged 13-19 (up to 25 for those that have learning difficulties or disabilities) to help them make a successful transition to adulthood. We are looking for adult volunteers to be part of a youth work team; to plan and deliver a range of engaging and educational activities, predominately evenings, including Friday and Saturdays, across Hertfordshire.
Projects range from those which are focused in particular localities to those which are targeting specific groups of young people, such as, young travellers, young parents, young carers, young women, those from black, minority and ethnic communities and those with learning difficulties and disabilities.
Our youth work teams deliver in a variety of settings including youth centres, parks, community buildings, schools and on the streets; wherever young people gather. The work includes weekly projects, youth forums, residentials, holiday provision and the delivery of the National Citizenship Scheme. You may have particular skills, knowledge or experience in sports, arts, media, music, outdoor education, DofE or health issues, or you may just want to give young people in your community something positive to do.
Andrew Simmons, Deputy Director of Services for Children and Young People, said: "Volunteers are invaluable and work alongside qualified staff in our projects. We are looking for people with diverse experience to further enhance these local teams for the benefit of Hertfordshire's young people."
You will need to be able to commit a minimum of one evening a week; in return you will be given initial and ongoing training and support. All potential volunteers will need to be successful at interview and complete an enhanced Criminal Record Bureau check.
